HD-TVI stands for High Definition Transport Video Interface. It is a DSP-TVI technology developed by Techpoint (2012), the Chipset was sold to Intersil. Hikvision and HanBang placed this technology into their new product. Hanbang successfully developed the TVI solution and solved HD-SDI's previous problems. TVI can convert the digital signals to analog ones, extends the transmission distance, reduces total cost and takes less storage capacity.

The Chinese company Hikvision is the largest camera manufacturer using this HD-TVI technology with Techpoint chips. Hikvision distributes its products around the world in different ways, one of them is using the brand itself and the other is through white label products, where the logo does not appear in the product and third companies can put their own brand. The technology was created in 2014 with the goal to transmit analog signals using coaxial cables at distances up to 500m. In 2016 Hikvision announced that with the improvements of the technology in the version Turbo HDTVI 3.0 it would be possible to transmit 720p resolution images at distances up to 1,200m and 1080p resolution images up to 800m.

HD-TVI Digital Cameras are a type of analog high definition CCTV security camera that supports up to 1080p video resolution. They are a great alternative to traditional analog CCTV systems because of their superior video quality and the ability to use RG59 coax cable.

For recording, HD-TVI security cameras must be used with a compatible DVR. CCTV Camera Pros supplies hybrid HD-TVI / CCTV DVRs that work with analog CCTV and TVI cameras (720p and 1080p models). These hybrid DVRs allow users to mix and match combinations of both camera types and upgrade existing analog systems over time to high definition.

Pros
HD-TVI Digital Cameras has the ability to record videos at a better range and can store them for a longer amount of time. HD TVI combines the greatness of an analog system (Great Range with low storage space) and a digital system (Better picture quality). The cost is also going to be less than other system once storage space is factored in.

One of the advantages of HD-TVI cameras is that they can use the same RG59 coax cable as traditional analog CCTV cameras and the cable runs can be just as long (max distance about 800 feet).

Just like traditional CCTV cameras, HD-TVI cameras are available with built-in infrared capability. IR allows cameras to capture black and white video in low light and zero light conditions.

HD-TVI cameras also support a variety of fixed and varifocal lens options. A varifocal lens allows the installer to adjust the angle of view/zoom level of the lens. A fixed lens has a single setting that is “fixed” and pre-focused.

HD-TVI Camera is the ideal choice if you want to upgrade from standard definition analog CCTV camera to higher resolution CCTV camera, because your existing cable infrastructure can be re-used.

Other features of HD-TVI:

Analog Camera and Coaxial Cable support.

The coaxial cables can be extended to at least 500m. The best part is that it does not require highly functional coax cables. In case, you possess cheap ones, you can expect it to work just fine. You will be able to hear clear audio signals through this cable.

Additionally, you can transmit RS485 data over the coaxial cable and tilt or zoom the video as you like.

You also have the facility of running video transmissions even with a twisted wire.

Till now, there has not been one incident regarding transmission delay.

You will never face any IP configuration issues because this digital signal does not utilize internet protocol.

The video does not get compressed, therefore, you will see every footage in real time.

It does have the necessary requirement of long network bandwidth, as it can work just fine without it.

Analog HD high video quality 720P/1080P resolution.

Best for long distance installations.

Has the longest distance of transmission for all resolutions at 300-500m.

DVR channel configuration flexibility.

Real-time preview without delay.

No quality loss and delay for HD video transmission.

Easy to upgrade your existing analog system to HD system.

Cons
The biggest cons of HD-TVI Digital Cameras is that they are not easy to install as other systems. A Professional installation is necessary. There is also a higher initial investment as the system itself is more expensive. But overtime the lower cost of storage mitigates the higher initial investment.

HD-TVI vs HD-SDI
• Longer transmission distance(without boost)

• Affordable Price

• Better Anti-interference and Reliability

• Longer video transmission distance up to 1000ft (300m) over regular coaxial cable

• 700ft (200m) distance for video transmission over UTP (Cat5, twisted cable)

• More cheaper price for analog HD system

• Support twisted cable installation

HD-TVI vs IP Camera
• No compression, so no video quality loss.

• Real-time video display, without any transmission signal delay.

• No network bandwidth requirement/influence

• No network configuration, as easy as analog system

• No video quality loss and compression

• No video latency issue, real time live-view

• Long video transmission distance

• More affordable price for camera and video storage devices

HD-TVI vs Analog
• HD resolution on 720P/1080P at 25/30fps

• Long distance transmission for HD video

• No video quality loss and delay for transmission

HD-TVI vs HD-CVI
Obviously, HD-TVI and HD-CVI have very similar features, both of them can provide analog high definition solutions. HD-TVI derives from American based company that does not supply to only one manufacturer. Therefore we are expecting many analog camera manufacturers will release wide range of HD-TVI based cameras to market. Therefore, HD-TVI is more likely to become an industry standard, not a proprietary technology/solution.

Conclusion:
As prices of HD technology continues to fall, making a choice between standard analog CCTV and HD CCTV systems becomes easier. HD TVI offers a vastly superior image quality, for a similar price to analog CCTV technology. If you already have a traditional CCTV system in place, simply replacing the DVR to a HD TVI one and replacing or adding new TVI based cameras will mean you can upgrade to FULL HD video, at little expense.
